Our Mission

Cross with Lines

St. John's is a Believing Community:

Then they said to Jesus, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”  Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”  (John 6:28, 29)

[Jesus said,] “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”  (John 7:38)

Family:

  • God has made parents the primary developers of Christian faith. Beginning at their child's baptism, parents are: prayed for, encouraged, and given the opportunity to find support and education from other members and groups at St. John's.
  • If you would like to be married at St. John's please look over our handbook, It is necessary that your beliefs about marriage be biblically based - if this is the case, please contact the Church Office for more information.
  • Parents are encouraged to be active participants in their child's education at our school.

Worship:

  • We believe that the best place for a child to worship is in the Sanctuary with their parents. It is there that children can learn how to properly worship God and ask the questions they need to in order to learn whats going on during the service. However, if your child needs either feeding or changing, we have a nursery located behind the sound booth in the Narthex. The nursery is equipped with chairs, a changing table, and blinds for your privacy.
  • As a school, the entire community gathers every morning where they will hear a relatable message about Jesus, pray, sing, and give thanks to their God. We encourage parents, grandparents, and the rest of the family to attend as often as they can, so they can be encouraged that their children are learning about Jesus.

St. John's is a Loving Community:

[Jesus said,] “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.”  (John 13:34)

“For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and Jesus died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.”  (2 Corinthians 5:14, 15)

Compassion:

  • We firmly believe that the entire body of Christ is able to help serve their neighbor. This is why we facilitate the Stephen Ministry program here at St. John's. If you or someone you love would like to make a confidential inquiry about receiving a Stephen Minister, please email Pastor Jones and they will connect you to one of our many Stephen Ministers.
  • We strive to be the hands and feet of Christ to our community in Waltz and to the rest of the world by:
    • Making sure our homebound members receive visits and gift baskets
    • Providing hardship relief to those in our community
    • Maintaining and providing our own food pantry to those in our community
    • Making and donating food and quilts as well as gathering necessitities to local area shelters
    • Regularly donating and participating in missions that span the globe
    • Praying for the entire Church and all its needs
  • We have a lot going on at St. John's, and it is not uncommon for you to find us out in the community - especially at Applefest, the Monroe County Fair, and in our local businesses and charities. If there is a particular area you would like to serve, please call or email us for more information!

St. John's is a Teaching Community:

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”  (Colossians 3:16)

“But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.”  (Titus 2:1)

Formal Education:

  • We have been blessed with the gift of a thriving school in our community, so we use the facilities we've been given to create a safe environment for children to be challenged and active in their learning.
  • We use every chance we can to bring in specialists from the field to provide our students with unique opportunities to learn.
  • We facilitate many openings for parents to come in and participate with their student's education.

Sunday School and Bible Classes:

  • God has given us His Word to study and learn from it. Therefore, we teach that everyone is a lifelong learner of Scripture, and for this reason we provide every age a Bible Class each Sunday between our services.
  • During every week, we offer morning and evening Bible Classes, prayer groups, and other opportunities to continue learning how to be a confessional Christian in our 21st Century culture.
  • Through our vast volunteer staff we offer opportunities for continuing education for all ages! If you have more questions about educational opportunities, please call (734) 654-6366.
